The only natural communities of speakers are in that part of Britain which is called Wales, and a small colony in Patagonia in the Chubut province of Argentina , although there are many speakers of Welsh elsewhere, particularly in England and Australia and the United States of America. The English names of the Welsh language in Welsh, y Gymraeg and the Welsh people y Cymry and Wales Cymru derive from a Germanic name for foreigners that crops up elsewhere in Europe in the same way, and which comes from a Latin name for a lost Celtic people, the Volcae. It is a language with an older pedigree, and a distinct one.

Known for his red hair and glasses, he made his name presenting on the TV show “The Big Breakfast” which was a British light entertainment television show shown on Channel 4 and S4C each weekday morning from until The show, a mix of news, weather, interviews, audience phone-ins and general features, had a light tone similar to the Today show or Good Morning America in the United States and was distinctive for broadcasting live from a cottage, located on Fish Island, in Bow in east London.

This format matches comic interaction between personalities, competent delivery of news, scripted or live telephone calls, on-air games and regular contests, and has now become fairly common as the format for morning shows on Top 40 radio in the English-speaking world. In his contract, he was also allowed the freedom to create television programs, and through this clause, built out the TV show TFI Friday beginning in , before a falling out with Radio 1 caused him to leave radio altogether for a short period, resurfacing on Virgin Radio almost a year later, in in direct competition with his old show.

Due to several personal conflicts and erratic behavior, Evans stepped away from presenting on media for a short time and concentrated on the business side of the field – setting up his own radio and television production company, UMTV, with the aim of specializing in live, cutting-edge, entertainment programming. Grace had previously worked with Soyuzmultfilm on an animated version of the Welsh folktale cycle, the Mabinogion , and he turned to them again for the Shakespeare project, feeling “if we were going to animate Shakespeare in a thirty-minute format, then we had to go to a country that we knew creatively and artistically could actually deliver. And in my view, frankly, there was only one country that could do it in the style that we wanted, that came at it from a different angle, a country to whom Shakespeare is as important as it is to our own.

This style went with enormous flair and verve and comic panache; but a lot of it was kitsch. Actors were hired to recite abbreviated versions of the plays written by Leon Garfield , who had written a series of prose adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays for children in , Shakespeare Stories. According to Garfield, editing the plays down to thirty minutes whilst maintaining original Shakespearean dialogue was not easy; “lines that are selected have to carry the weight of narrative, and that’s not always easy.

It frequently meant using half a line, and then skipping perhaps twenty lines, and then finding something that would sustain the rhythm but at the same time carry on the story.

Some multiplexes cover almost all of the UK, while commercial and local multiplexes have lower overall coverage, thus not everyone can get the full range of the channels. The following visualises how each multiplex is made up, and how services share bandwidth. You’ll also find this information handy if you’re missing certain Freeview channels, as it will reveal which multiplexes you can’t receive.

Multiplexes can be set up in different ways, meaning they can have different amounts of bandwidth and can carry different numbers of channels. Sometimes there is a trade-off between bandwidth and coverage. HD channels take more bandwidth than SD channels, so fewer HD channels fit on a multiplex, even though HD multiplexes have more bandwidth. St Trinian’s, St Trinian’s, will never die Flash Harry in teddy boy garb, hanging out with the 6th form Ah! It may be the weakest of the original films, nonetheless I enjoy it greatly. Many, many years ago, when I was just a little guttersnipe and we had only a black-and-white telly, Channel 4 broadcast the films and I loved them. That must date it to the early s.

Anyway, something about the anarchy of the films appealed to me, and does still to this day. St Trinian’s was a school, perhaps the worst or the best of girls’ schools. Its teachers were unqualified, unfit to teach or simply on the run; its younger pupils were violent, criminal and opportunistic while its older ones were violent, criminal, opportunistic and nubile
